Tutoring has Arrived in Nova Scotia!

Unfortunately our French Tutoring program has filled very quickly. We are now starting a waitlist. Click here to register.

We will try to accommodate families on the waitlist in our next program starting in January

Canadian Parents for French – Nova Scotia is proud to be offering a FREE ONLINE French Tutoring Program this fall. The 8-week program, in which students can register for a one-hour session with bilingual virtual volunteer tutors to get help with French homework to help them improve their French writing, reading and/or conversational skills, is starting soon! This program helps kids gain extra practice outside the classroom and is meant for French Second Language learners.

The program will be for children 6 to 14 years of age and will run from October 19 to Dec 18, 2020.  Volunteer tutors are available from Monday through Sundays, daytime and evenings to support students.

Families can enroll a maximum of three kids. Registration is limited, spaces will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Must be a current CPF Member to register.  If you aren’t already a member you can sign up by visiting the national CPF website: www.cpf.ca. Membership is FREE until March 31st, 2021.

Already a member?  Register here for the virtual tutoring!

Each child enrolled in the program will receive one hour a week session with our volunteer tutors. These sessions help build confidence when speaking French. Each child will work with volunteers from across Canada and newcomers to Canada from various Francophone countries thus exposing the kids to a variety of French accents and new aspects of Canadian and worldly Francophone culture.

Are you a parent looking to offer your child all the benefits of a dual-language education? You might feel a little overwhelmed with questions and uncertainties about French-second-language, or FSL, education. Even if you’ve already made the decision to enrol your child in an FSL program, you might be at a loss as to how you can help him or her succeed if you don’t speak French yourself.

CPF is here to help. We have many informative pamphlets and brochures that can help you pick the right program for the right child; and for parents whose children are already studying FSL, we have resources that can help you help your kids. We are primarily, first and foremost, a parent-oriented organization, so we are here for you and your family every step of the way.

Join us virtually for an opportunity to learn and improve your French with other adults. This course is suited to beginner and intermediate students who want to become more comfortable using French and have a better grasp of the basic rules of the language.

Each week the instructor uses a thematic approach in order to cover a range of important topics. The first half of each class is concept-based, including learning vocabulary, grammar, and structure.   The second half of each class is practice and oral activities, so you can put into place that night’s lesson. The style of the lessons remains the same, with 90-minute classes lasting for 8 weeks. However, the classroom will adopt an immersion (French only) approach. As such, students will have more opportunities to speak and cultivate their ability in the French language.

This second level is a natural continuation of the themes studied in Level 1. Students will build upon their basic understanding of grammar to include more advanced topics and conjugations, and vocabulary.

In addition to the French language and culture, students will also learn more techniques and tips for successfully overseeing their child/guardian’s studies in French immersion.

To register, contact Canadian Parents for French Nova Scotia by phone at 902-453-2048, by email at [email protected], or complete the registration form below.

Classes are capped to 14 students, register early to avoid disappointment.

    LEVEL 2 will cover:

    • More vocabulary (special occasions, the environment, geography, at the restaurant, and more)
    • More practice with pronunciation
    • Further exploration of grammar concepts
    • Additional hints, strategies, and resources for immersion parents
    • Discussions about immersion through the middle and secondary school years
