Francis was a Grade 10 French immersion student who never really understood why his parents put him in the program. He had no idea how French could benefit his future. So when Francis’ teacher encouraged him to attend the Bilingual Career Exploration Day, he was excited to go!

Francis spent the day learning about a huge variety of career paths where French could benefit him. He heard from many speakers that day, and quickly saw how their ability to communicate in French enhanced their career opportunities.  Francis was especially amazed to hear that if you were bilingual you would be more successful as a pilot, diplomat, salesperson and doctor. These were all careers that he was considering pursuing, so he felt really inspired now.

Although Francis was initially skeptical about French immersion’s benefits, he left feeling encouraged and thankful that his parents had put him in the program after all. Francis finally understood why they had made the decision for him to pursue a French education all those years ago.

What is the Bilingual Career Exploration Day?

The Bilingual Career Exploration Day is:

  • an opportunity for IB/French immersion and French first language high school students to learn about work, volunteer opportunities and educational programs; and
  • a chance to inspire soon-to-be graduates and share how bilingualism enhanced people’s lives.

This event is one of CPF Nova Scotia’s most successful. Since establishing this event in 2006, CPF Nova Scotia has seen over 5,000 students participate.

Our Bilingual Career Exploration Day will be held virtually this year in partnership with CPF PEI, CPF Ontario and CPF Alberta.  Our event will be held over February and March 2021. Students and schools will have extended periods to access the keynotes, workshops, live interaction and exhibitors. To learn how to become an exhibitor, please contact Rebecca Lancaster at cpfexec@ns.cpf.ca.
