Kate Ashley, new President of Canadian Parents for French, Nova Scotia

Canadian Parents for French, Nova Scotia held their annual conference on September 19.  The decision was made during the summer to hold the event virtually this year in anticipation of a second wave of COVID 19 infection.

President Jan Claes has finished her two year term as President, but is staying on the board as Past President for a year.  Kate Ashley has been a board member since 2017 and has been Vice President for the past two years.  Kate is a professor of French at Acadia University. She has had a variety of committee ex­perience, having served on Boards such as the Hum­ber Community YMCA and the Booker School. She has volunteered with CPF Nova Scotia as a judge at the Concours d’art oratoire. Kate currently has three children in French immersion. Welcome aboard Kate!

The new Vice President is Bailey Ross, a fourth-year student at l’Université Sainte-Anne.  Bailey is majoring in French while completing his Bachelor of Education. Originally from Digby, Bailey is a graduate of the Early French immersion program. Sinece arriving at l’Université Sainte-Anne, Bailey has been V.P. of Student Services and President of the Student Union, a Senator of Sainte-Anne’s Academic Senate, a Governor on Sainte-Anne’s Governors Council, the Sainte-Anne representative on the Conseil de Jeunesse Provincial of Nova Scotia, and the CJPNS representative with the Société nationale de l’Acadie.  Bailey also is our Youth representative on the Board of Directors.  He has been a Board since 2017.  Bailey was one of the keynote speakers at our Bilingual Career Exploration Day in Port Hawkesbury, November 2019.  Merci Bailey!

The other keynote speaker was Kiley Burke.  Kiley is a new graduate from the Bachelor of Education program at St FX.  Kiley is presently teaching grade 6 teacher at École des Beaux-Marais in Porters Lake. Growing up in Prospect, Kiley completed a late immersion program from grades seven to twelve and went off to pursue French, Political Science and Environmental Sustainability at Dalhousie University before heading off to St FX. While going through university, Kiley continuously sought out opportunities in the community to improve her French, such as joining the Dalhousie French Society and attending weekly meet-up groups.  Kiley is the newest member of the Board.
