Canadian Parents for French – Nova Scotia announces 2014 Volunteers of the Year at Conference and AGM

Halifax, Nova Scotia –   This year’s Canadian Parents for French – Nova Scotia Volunteer of the Year Awards were awarded to Isabelle Pédot, Alliance Française and Paul Hollett, Kings-EdgehillSchool.

Both volunteers were being recognized and celebrated for continued support of the Concours d’art oratoire.  Mme Pédot is the Directrice générale of Alliance Française.  For many years, Isabelle has attended the Concours, judged and organized many volunteers from Alliance Française to participate at this event.  Mr Hollet is a junior high school teacher at King’s-Edgehill in Windsor.  Paul has participated as a judge and has also recruited other teachers and parents to volunteer as well.  Both recipients are valuable supporters of CPF Nova Scotia and have contributed greatly to the organization.

Early exposure to French language and culture came in the form of summer language camp at St-Pierre-et-Miquelon for Paul Hollett who was born in Newfoundland. The experience had a positive and transformative effect.  After high school, Mr. Hollett went on to Memorial University of Newfoundland to complete degrees in French and Education. Further study and work have taken him to France, England, British Columbia and finally to Nova Scotia. He has worked at King’s-EdgehillSchool in Windsor for the past nineteen years.   Mr. Hollett learned about the annual Concours d’art oratoire and Canadian Parents for French at King’s-Edgehill when a colleague mentioned that volunteers were needed.  He has volunteered for this event for over fifteen years.

Mr. Hollett remembers the profound and long-lasting effect of French in his early years; he hopes that, by being a volunteer with Canadian Parents for French, he is helping to open the door on similar positive experiences for young Nova Scotians and promote a life-long love of French language and culture.

Felicitations to Isabelle and Paul!
