Did you know that in Nova Scotia, over 90,000 people speak French*?  There are many vibrant communities representing the Francophonie: Acadians, Quebecois, Lebanese, French-speaking Africans, Europeans, the Caribbean and Francophiles.

Nova Scotia has been offering French immersion programs for over 40 years.  Many students now in French immersion and core French are the children of French second language graduates. Help keep the language and culture alive!

Are you a student in a STEM or an Arts program? 

  • You don’t need a background in French language studies; in fact, students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Economics, Sociology, and Psychology are in demand for the Bachelor of Education program. French teachers do more than just teach French.  They teach math, science, social studies and many other subjects!

Have you studied core French or French immersion?

  • Did you study core French or were you in a French immersion program? Was French one of your stronger subjects at high school?  Then you would be a great candidate for a Bachelor in Education with French teachable!
  • You can also improve your French by:
    • taking advantage of the Explore program. It offers 5-week intensive summer French courses across the country and is funded by the Federal government;
    • vacationing in Quebec, New Brunswick or French areas in Nova Scotia;
    • volunteering with French organizations and communities;
    • joining a conversation group; and
    • taking French classes.
  • There are many ways to get your French university-ready!

  • Are you a math whiz?  Can you talk for hours on end about science?  Do you love to discuss and debate current affairs?  Teaching could be the opportunity to share your passion and expertise!

  • There are many opportunities to teach French as a second language in Nova Scotia. Each Regional Centre for Education offers programs in core French (grades 4-12), intensive French (grade 6), integrated French (grades 7-12), early immersion (grades 1-12) and late immersion (grades 7-12). NS Education and Early Childhood Development.
  • In Nova Scotia, there are four accredited Faculties of Education with French as a teachable: Université Sainte-AnneMount Saint Vincent UniversitySt Francis Xavier University and Acadia University. Upon graduating from the Bachelor of Education program, you will start the process for your Teacher Certification. You will be tested on your French proficiency at that time.
